Sith Triumvirate

From left: Darth Sion, Darth Traya, and Darth Nihilus.

The Sith Triumvirate was the remnants of Revan and Malak’s empire.  It was made up of Darth Traya, a Jedi named Kreia who trained Revan and was exiled for it, Darth Nihilus, a survivor of the Mandalorian War, and Darth Sion, an acolyte in Revan and Malak’s empire.  Formed after the death of Darth Malak and the disappearance of Revan, the triumvirate waged a shadow warfare on the Jedi order.  Towards the beginning of the war Darth Traya was betrayed by her other two confederates.  Consumed by hatred of the Force itself, being forsaken by both Sith and Jedi, joined with a Jedi known only as the Jedi Exile and plotted its destruction.  In the meanwhile Sion and Nihilus carried out the first Jedi purge by sending out assassins until very few Jedi were left.  One of the last Jedi, the Exile traveled with a group of companions in search of other Jedi fighting the Sith all the way.  Eventually Traya betrayed her and got Sion back under her thumb.  Soon after, the Exile and her companions boarded Nihilus’s flagship and slew him.  Then, traveling to the Sith training world of Malachor V, she dueled and killed Darth Sion and entered Traya’s lair.  Traya planned to kill the Exile and send echos through the Force that could have destroyed it, but in the end she was overcome.  With her dying breathe she advised the Exile to follow Revan into the Unknown regions of space, advice the Exile took and she was never reported of again.  The Sith empire sputtered and died after the death of its leaders.

Galactic Conquerers

From left to right: Sith acolyte, the Dark Lord Darth Revan, his Sith apprentice Darth Malak, Revan’s assassin droid HK-47, and a Sith trooper.

A long time ago, even by Star Wars standards, a thousand years before the Clone Wars the Old Republic and the Jedi knights were the the hammer of justice in the galaxy.  At the same time the planet of Mandalore and its warrior clans of super commandos(ancestors of the great Jango and Boba Fett)  were on a conquest of all the planets around theirs.  Eventually the Mandalorians and their greedy conquering came to the eye of the Republic and the two societies went to war in a great bloody conflict known as the Mandalorian Wars.  Many Jedi perished in the chaos and the control of the armies of the Republic fell to a young charismatic Jedi named Revan and his apprentice Malak.  Angered by the toll the war was taking, Revan led a brutal campaign against the Mandalorians that many of the older Jedi thought skimmed too close to the Dark Side, yet Revan was increasingly popular among the younger Jedi and gathered many followers.  Revan led the war to a sweeping finish and forced the Mandalorians to dismantle their fearsome basilisk war droid mounts.  Hailed as a hero, Revan, Malak, and their following took off toward unknown space claiming to look for the rest of the Mandalorian fleet, when in reality they were questing for the legendary Star Forge, a giant automated factory designed to create the ultimate army.  Revan and Malak found a map written by an ancient Sith lord on Dantooine that led them to the emperor of the Sith Empire thought destroyed in the Great Hyperspace War.  There he corrupted the pair and told them to return to the Republic as a vanguard to a Sith invasion.  They took the information the Sith lord gave them and went to the previously discovered Lehon system.  There they crashed on the planet and were attacked by the the natives.  After thoroughly cowing them, they had the primitives take them to their leader.  In the aftermath of the conversation the leader told them to kill a rival clan if he wanted to know the secrets.  Instead, Revan went to the rival clan and masqueraded as a servant of light trying to destroy the Star Forge.  Trustingly, they gave him access to the Temple of the Ancients  and the pair promised in turn to destroy the Star Forge.  Instead, they named themselves as the new Dark Lords.  Now Darth Revan used the Star Forge build him a Sith fleet, though he did not want to use it more than he had to.  Revealing himself to the galaxy, he took the planet Korriban and established a new Sith academy and many of his followers became Sith acolytes.  Then he started the master campaign that almost swept the galaxy into another Sith Empire, the Republic mostly being saved by the Battle Meditation of a Jedi named Bastila Shan.  In a trap set for the Dark Lord, several Jedi invaded his flagship and fought him.  During the melee’, Malak ordered his cruiser to open fire on his master’s.  Betrayed, Revan was taken by the Jedi.  Then he was brought before the Jedi counsel where by their combined efforts they erased his memory.  With no idea about his dark past, the Jedi recruited him to go after his own apprentice, Darth Malak, who had dawned the title of Dark Lord of the Sith.  After several encounters of the worst kind, with Revan picking his memories on the way.  In his final duel over the Star Forge, Malak revealed everything and master and apprentice fought for the fate of the galaxy.  In the end Revan overcame the Dark Lord and on his death bed Malak accused Revan of leading him to the Dark Side, but Revan reminded him that he did not turn from his evil ways when he had the chance and Malak died with no resentment to his master.  The Star Forge plummeted into the sun it was orbiting and was destroyed.  With all of his old memories back Revan was unwilling to stay in the Republic and jumped into the Unknown regions of space, never to be heard from again.  From the ashes of Malak’s empire rose the three Sith that would become the Sith Triumvirate.

The Dark Lord

Galen Marek, warlord of the Galactic Empire.

“Your time is over! I am the future of the Sith!

-Lord Marek

Galen Marek was actually Darth Vader’s apprentice, between Episode III and IV.  Darth Vader trained him to assist in the Jedi purge, but the Emperor saw more in him.  He encouraged his intensive training until finally dropping a subtle hint that Vader had betrayed him.  The Emperor wanted Lord Marek (newly christened) to kill Vader and replace him.  All went according to plan, Marek turned rogue and wiped out thousands of stormtroopers to get to Vader, but the Dark Lord was to powerful.  After a long and bloody battle, Vader overcame and remained the Emperor’s right hand.

Caedus

Darth Caedus

“I tell you this: he is the greatest of all Sith and more dangerous then you could possibly imagine.”

-Vergere

Darth Caedus is none other than Han and Leia Solo’s son.  He fought in the four year Yuuzhan Vong war, and learned of the Dark Side by a rogue Sith named Lumiya.  He fully embraced it, and became incredibly powerful and corrupt.  He then ended up murdering Luke Skywalker wife, Mara Jade Skywalker.  Lumiya christened him as Darth Caedus after this deed, discarding his old name, Jacen Solo.  He later inherited Darth Krayt’s Empire, and ruled it with an iron fist until he was dethroned and the Empire was dispersed by Luke and the remnants of the New Republic.  After this, he was hunted down and killed by his sister, Jaina Solo.

Krayt and Wyyrlok

Krayt (left) and his adviser, Wyyrlok

“Even the truth has its uses”

-Lord Krayt

A’sharad Hett was a padawan that served in the Clone Wars but somehow survived order 66, and was later captured by the Yuuzhan Vong.  He learned of the Dark Side and, despite the Empire being long dead, claimed the remnants of the old Empire and retook the entire Galaxy remaking Palpatine’s Imperium.  Krayt was the absolute tyrant and dictator, but had over ten Sith generals under him, including Darth Wyyrlok (His adviser) Darth Reave, Darth Nihl, Darth Talon and Darth Ravage.  He called this the one Sith rule.  Krayt ruled, conquered, and oppressed for decades before finally being murdered when he was weak by none other than Wyyrlok his adviser.  Wyyrlok then claimed the throne, but only Krayt could hold such a regime together and it fell apart before his eyes.

Revan

Darth Revan

“Revan was power. Staring into his face was like staring into the force…”

-Darth Traya

Revan earned respect as a Jedi during wars as a brilliant war strategist and one of the Orders best blades.  As he became more powerful he fell under the gaze of Sith Lord, Darth Traya, who trained him in the ways of the Dark Side.  Revan later pulled his fellow Jedi, Malak, into the ways of the Dark Side and they ruled the Galaxy by the products of Revan’s relentless conquesting.  Throughout their reign, Revan was always slightly higher than Malak in rank, and Malak usually did most of the duo’s “dirty work”.  After being betrayed by Malak, Revan was overpowered and captured by seven Jedi, and had his mind literally wiped clean of his Sith memories.  He served to destroy and foil many of Malak’s plots and later ended up killing Malak in a duel.  In later years Revan’s memories began to return and he left into the unknown regions of space to ponder, never to be seen again.

Malak

Darth Malak, ex-emperor of the Galaxy

“Wipe that pathetic planet off the face of the galaxy!”

-Darth Malak

Malak once served alongside Revan in the Mandalorian Wars, and later served as co-ruler of the galaxy with him.  Malak was known as one of the greatest swordsman of his time, and wielded Dark Side powers to achieve his foul means, including a force amplified screech and powerful force lightning.  When Revan turned to the Light Side Malak assumed full control of the Sith but was later killed by Revan himself in a ferocious duel.

Sion

Darth Sion, Lord of Pain

Darth Sion was another of the Sith who governed the Triumvirate which took over Sith dealings after Revan and Malak’s Empire.  He was incredibly powerful and was actually practically a walking dead man, with only the force holding his rotting body together.  This came at a price though.  He was in a constant state of torment and agony, which gained him the name Lord of  Pain.  Like Nihilus, he was killed in the fall of the Sith Triumvirate.

Darth Nihilus, Dark Lord of Hunger

Nihilus

Darth Nihilus, Lord of Hunger

“He is like a wound in the force, once he consumes the Light Side he will devour the Dark Side as well until there is no force at all.”

Darth Nihilus was a leading Sith during the “Sith Triumvirate” , which was a ruling faction of  Sith prior to the Clone Wars.  He was an excellent swordsman, but his true power lied in his consuming ability, hence the name “Lord of Hunger”.  He had the stunning ability to drain a victim of its force ability permanently, and while doing so, doubled his own strength.  He was killed by the Jedi Exile when the Triumvirate was overthrown.

On the origin of the names

Friday, May 7th, 2010

One who peruses this site might (and better) notice the wide variety of strange names found therein. Such names are almost always not the result of various brain cells running into one another. They are, instead, the highly-sophisticated result of two cells sidling up to a third which they push into the center of a rather astonishing formation of three cells where the third cell finds himself trapped by five cells which have all been before mentioned and if you do not know what I am talking about, then you have not paid any attention to this sentence at all and I wish you would. Now, the cell that finds himself trapped begins to secrete a powerful chemical, known in the world of science as Hemptosphickticlaphiticolarkiticozoanticic fumes. These Hemptosphickticlaphiticolarkiticozoanticic fumes create such a powerful oder, that the other cells immediately flee from the one producing them. These cells race around the brain and bump into other cells, which, in turn, thinking there is some danger at hand, flee in all directions at once. Now, where as it would be impossible to literally flee in all directions at once for you and me, the cells simply split apart, thus creating so many of themselves that they are, in a manner of speaking, running in all directions at once. This sudden production of brain cells tricks the brain into thinking that the production rate must be up. Therefore, when the cells stop running around uttering shrieks far beyond the level of human hearing, The brain thinks that something must be wrong. It therefore casts about within itself, searching for a solution to the problem that it thinks exists but doesn’t while it thinks it does but doesn’t. It comes up with several solutions at once (as most good brains do) and thus creates a vast variety of ideas and words.

When thinking of a name, these moments of, as we sometimes term it,  Inventiveness, come in handy. For example, at this very moment, I am thinking of several different things at once. If mashed together, they might present a rather fearful picture:

Read 'On the origin of names'

So when trying to think of a name, many thoughts melt together and form something completely absurd, unfocused, and dryly humorous.
