Battle Dawn: A World Domination Game

Battle Dawn is an excellent strategy MMO browser based game, meaning that you can play it anywhere you have access to the internet. It is completely free to play, and does not require any personal information or downloads of any kind. Simply create an account and compete against thousands of other players!
There are several Battle Dawn worlds, including Earth, Mars, Fantasy, and even a Galaxy version. Each world moves along in time at a different rate, offering you several options concerning how fast you want to play. The faster the world, the more general experience required. I will explain more about speeds in a moment.

The theme of Battle Dawn is that you are a daring commander, vying with many others to gain control of the world! You will establish your colony, create or join an alliance, and conquer your enemies. A helpful tutorial when you first arrive helps you to navigate your way around the game and starts you building your colony.

The more structures you build, the better your colony will become. Farms increase worker population, helping your castle grow. Mineral/Metal/Gold (the term varies on each world) mines and Gas/Oil/Lumber mills increase your resources, enabling you to build more structures or assemble massive armies. Different structures deal with weapon producing and unit recruiting facilities. Certain structures allow you to scan other players outposts and colonies, and to recruit spies which can cause devastating damage to armies. The more of these structures you have built, the more knowledge you can gain about your enemies maneuvers and armies. Your colony also has a range. You can see everything going on within this range, but outside of it you can only see other colonies. As you build more structures of the correct type, your range will increase, allowing you to see more of the world. The last structure of this type also provides you with an incredible Ion Cannon, which can cause massive damage to other armies and colonies.

Each world has a time system composed of ‘ticks’. Each tick length varies depending on the world. The slowest world is one tick per hour, while the fastest is four ticks per hour. Because Battle Dawn is a continuous game in which units move and structures are built around the clock, even when you aren’t there, the shorter the tick, the faster things happen, and the more action there is in a world. You can have a colony in as many worlds as you wish, but you can only have one colony per world.

Monitoring each world is the admin. There is a different admin for each one. I you ever need any help, all you need to do is send him a message and expect a reply within twenty-four hours. The admins are very consistent in replying, and you can depend on them to help you.

In addition to your colony, you can build outposts. An outpost can be upgraded to different things such as portals, allowing your armies to move quickly from one place to another; radars, giving you a range in that location so that you can see what is going on; missile silos, allowing you to create and fire missiles, which can nearly kill entire armies; and training bases, which allow you to recruit units at remote locations.

Of course, there are alliances too. You can either lead an alliance or join one. There is a max on how many members an alliance can have. This is a good thing, as it prevents any one alliance from becoming too powerful. This cap has also led to the creation of subs. Subs are alliances that have proclaimed themselves to be under the more powerful ones. If the main alliance is full, you can simply join one of its subs. Alliances are a great way to sort the players. Instead of having to tell everyone on your side to attack certain people, you can simply mark their alliance hostile… or friendly, whichever one is appropriate.

As in any world domination game, you conquer your enemies. Once you have launched the attack against them and killed all of their units in their colony, you have conquered them! If you conquer a colony, you have the option of levying taxes: a great way to boost your resource production. Beware of those you conquer though; after seventy-two ticks they have the ability to rebel against you and become free once more!

A very creative part of Battle Dawn is the spy. Recruiting one may be costly, but they can infiltrate your enemies outposts and colonies, and cause devastating damage to all inside. From weakening the enemies’ units, to utterly destroying their resources, spies can do it all. The longer the spy infiltrates, or stays on, a target, the more powerful it becomes, enabling it to do unlimited damage. Fortunately, you can protect yourself, your allies, and your outposts from spies by using spy protection. Spy protection weakens each tick it is active though, so you want to keep replenishing it. If your protection is higher than the spy’s infiltration, then you capture the spy and the enemy has to recruit a new one.

In moments when your enemies have the upper hand and attack you with missiles and forces beyond yours, you can rely on the Ion Cannon. The Ion can destroy missiles and severely weaken ships. But use it wisely; it is expensive to fire. The Ion can also be used against other colonies, or even outposts, causing great damage to all within.

Above, I mentioned a missile. A missile is a devastating weapon that you can build. Launch it at your opponent’s colonies and outposts, and it weakens the units within so much that the slightest attack will kill them. However, you must hurry. Units can regain health as long as they remain still. Strike soon after a missile attack and be assured of an easy victory!

Also mentioned briefly above was the capability of marking someone friendly or hostile. This is an extremely useful part of the alliance leader’s options, as it can easily and quickly point out to allies who to attack and who not to. Treaties will sometimes be formed, requiring your allies to not attack the alliance in question. Friendly marks can be very useful in a situation like this.

A very fun part about Battle Dawn is the fact that you can betray your allies. You are capable of attacking them at any time. Combine this with the fact that they will let you build up your forces, thinking you will attack their opponents, and they are in for a surprise.

Because everyone can rebel, you cannot conquer the entire world and have it stay that way. Instead, the object of the game is to capture great, mysterious craft called relics. There are usually ten of these that enter the world at random spots throughout the era. They are heavily defended by the admin; but a great reward awaits him who can capture them. They act like a moving base for your squads… a very useful thing if a target you want to attack is too far away. If all ten of the relics are held by one alliance for a certain period of time, then that alliance wins and the era goes into havoc.

Havoc is a short period, once the game has been won, where all of the players gain so many resources from the admin that they cannot possibly run out of them any time soon. This means that they can recruit as many units as they want, build as many outposts as they want, and, in general, attack anyone they want, any way they want. This tends to lead to worldwide havoc, hence the name of the period. Havoc does not last very long, and the era soon starts over.

One last thing to mention is tokens. There are two kinds of tokens – blue ones and red ones – and with them you can buy different things. You can buy such things as production boosts, enabling you to produce more than usual, with blue tokens. Boosts that add immediately to your resources are very useful, and can also be purchased with blue tokens. You get blue tokens for achieving certain things. Being a member of the top 10 alliances, conquering a hostile colony, or capturing your first outpost are examples. Red tokens are the hard to get kind. You can purchase them with money, or you can promote Battle Dawn by making a video or writing an article about it. Red tokens enable you to get the especially large production boosts, and can even extend the resource cap on your colony so that you can have more resources on hand.

There are many other features of Battle Dawn, and each of them is better than the last. Establish your colony, expand your borders, and build up a great army. If you like world domination, you’re bound to like Battle Dawn. To check it out, go to battledawn.com. The world is waiting.
